The Watchtower Museum in Tynemouth, which is packed full of unique maritime artefacts from ships bells to figureheads, is the oldest of its kind in the world and dates back to the wreck of The Stanley in 1864 at the mouth of the river Tyne. The Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade is a volunteer, shore based, coastal rescue service and is still based here. The TVLB celebrated it's 150 year anniversary in 2014, it's a registered charity and relies on donations and fund raising events to survive visit for more information.
